Setting My Goals (the beginning) - Join me on the Journey

So, I'm here - finally I have entered the techno world of blogging with a trepid leap. I hope you enjoy my articles and comments over the coming weeks, months and years (decades!) and benefit from them in a whole variety of ways. I personally hope to gain friendships, companions, opponents and mentors through my expedition. I have to admit that, to a degree, this blog is generated out of selfish desires! Shock horror! No, no - it's nothing sinister. It is my express belief that when setting goals and aims, particularly those regarding health, sport and fitness, it is important to publicise your plans. "Why?" I here you cry - because if I make a commitment I'm more likely to follow through - does that make sense? Think about it, have you ever set a target, been ultra motivated to achieve it at the time of setting it then, days or weeks later, lost your motivation? Of course, everyone has. However, if you make a public commitment to achieve something, the pressure is on and you'd better have a darn good explanation for not achieving it!!
So, you are my trainers, supporters, encouragers or whatever name you'd prefer to be referred to as - and, (this is a good bit) I'm yours! Feel free to send me your goals, aims and targets and I'll do my very best to help you achieve them in any way I can.

Firstly, I think it is important to physically feel healthy, and this requires adjusting diet. (Please accept all comments are just my personal opinions and are not based on professional, medical or quantified research!).

Here are my top five, quick and easy tips, on how to start feeling healthier:-

1) Drink 2-4 litres on water everyday. Ideally add sliced fresh lemon to your water. The water will keep your body hydrated (you should never really feel thirsty!) and the lemon provides an alkaline substance to your body.

MY GOAL: Drink a minimum of 3 litres water each and everyday in 2009!

2) Have green vegetables or salad with every main meal. Ideally in a ratio which favours the vegetable / salad e.g. If you have a steak, compliment it with a portion(s) of veg / salad larger than the steak. The veg / salad provide valuable nutrients, are often alkaline in state and are largely water based.

MY GOAL: My 'five a day ' intake should outweigh all other intake.

3) Eat something every 3 hours. This should be a small healthy snack like a stick of celery, a handful of almonds or a tomato.

MY GOAL: This ones easy, snack more! (on the above - tomato, celery, almonds)

4) Avoid junk food and 'fizzy drinks'. Forget the immediate 'feelgood' these will bring. The after effects will be far worse. These foods contain 'triggers' which make you want more, but will drastically decrease your performance.

MY GOAL: Avoid junk food and fizzy drinks completely.

5) Eat foods and oils containing Omega 3, 6 and 9. Any vehicles needs good fuel and oil to perform well - your body is no different.

MY GOAL: Eat fish and oils containing the Omega series.

I know the above is pretty basic and my goals are not really measurable by anyone bar myself - but it's a start - and I believe making a start in anything is the most difficult point. Feel free to contact me with any comments, questions or advice you may have for me - we all have things to learn - I certainly have!
PICTURE OF THE DAY: Courage and confidence needs to be channeled in the correct direction!

Ready, steady....GO!

Hi, my name is Ian and i'm ultra competitive. I'm determined 2009 is going to be my year, and i'd like to share my trials and tribulations with the great people of this virtual world we call the web. My goals, which i'm sure are not uncommon, are to transform my life in 2009 through massive action - not just physically, but mentally and emotionally. I hope you share my journey, which is sure to be a rollercoaster ride, and encourage, suggest and direct me along the way. Alternatively I hope to aspire and inspire you, offer sound advice and help you achieve your goals, whatever they may be. Here begin the fledgling footsteps of a marathon trip.....
